A £20 million project to replace the gas mains under The Solent between the mainland and the Isle of Wight begins this summer.
| Start date: | |
| Duration: | Approximately 18 months |
| Location: | Lepe, Hampshire and Gurnard, Isle of Wight |
| Description: |
The existing gas pipes between the mainland and the Isle of Wight are coming to the end of their useful lives and need to be replaced. This is to ensure that safe and reliable gas supplies to the island can continue into the future. The new gas pipes will pass under The Solent from Lepe in Hampshire and will be installed using a specialist drilling technique. We will also be connecting the new mains with the existing network, which will include work to lay the mains in a trench and the construction of a new Pressure Reduction Station (PRS) in Gurnard. Construction work is planned to begin in July 2010. Further information regarding the project can be found here. |
