SGN shows support for Yorkhill

Engineer speaking to a member of the public

Gas distribution company Scotland Gas Networks (SGN) has recently stepped up to support  Willie Roxburgh with his work in fundraising for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital. Willie is an First Call Operative at the company’s Hillington depot.

Willie explained why he got involved. “My grandson was taken into Yorkhill when he was four weeks old. He had a condition that became serious and he was admitted as an emergency case. He was taken into surgery that day, and we’re really glad to say he’s fine now.”

As a result of this experience, Willie and his family teamed up with a colleague of his wife who had a similar experience. The families held a disco and an auction at the Lady Alice Bowling Club in Greenock.

“We started off having a raffle, but the items were of such good quality that we ended up auctioning them. People were really generous, my family for donating stereos and things and people for paying for them in the auction. We raised £2,000.”

To support William and the Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, SGN has donated a further £500. This donation came through SGN’s ‘Into Action’ fund, which supports its staff like Willie who get involved in fundraising for local charities.
