• Cambuslang (G73)
    Brownside Road

    Start date: 28 June 2017
    Approximate duration: 30 weeks

We’re investing £425,000 to upgrade our network in the Brownside Road area of Cambuslang.

This essential work involves replacing old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe, which has a minimum lifespan of 80 years, to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for the local area.

Following discussions with South Lanarkshire Council, work will start on Wednesday 28 June and take approximately 30 weeks to complete. We’ve split this project into eight phases to try to reduce disruption for motorists and local residents.

Phase one – approximately 8 weeks

We will begin work in Brownside Road on Wednesday 28 June. To ensure everyone’s safety, there will be four-way temporary traffic lights in place at its junction with West Coats Road, and three-way temporary traffic lights in place at its junction with Buchanan Drive. Three-way traffic lights will also be in place at Brownside Road's junction with Chatelherault Avenue and four-way traffic lights will be in place at its junction with Hawthorn Walk. We will also have two-way temporary traffic lights in place next to our work area as we move along the road.

Phase two – approximately 2 weeks

From Monday 21 August, we’ll start replacing our gas main in Chatelherault Avenue. To ensure the safety of motorists and our engineers, the road will be closed for the duration of our work, however, local access will be maintained at all times.

Phase three – approximately 2 weeks

We’ll begin work in Richmond Drive on Monday 4 September. To ensure everyone’s safety while we work, Richmond Drive will be closed while we complete our work, however, we will maintain local access for residents at all times.

Phase four – approximately 1 week

We’ll start work in Buchanan Drive on Monday 11 September. During this phase, we will have a lane closure in place at its junction with Brownside Road while we complete our work.

Phase five – approximately 7 weeks

From Monday 18 September, we’ll start replacing our gas main in Wellshot Drive. To ensure the safety of motorists and our engineers, Wellshot Drive will be closed while we work, however, local access will be maintained for residents at all times.

Phase six – approximately 4 weeks

From Monday 13 November, we’ll begin work in Central Avenue. During this phase, Central Avenue will be closed with local access maintained for residents.

Phase seven – approximately 5 weeks

From Monday 11 December, we’ll begin work in Buchanan Drive. To ensure everyone’s safety we will have two-way temporary traffic lights in place next to our work area as we move along the road.

Phase eight – approximately 1 week

We’ll then begin work in Glasgow Road and Main Street on Monday 15 January. We may need to temporarily restrict some footpaths and suspend some parking while we work.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Cambuslang residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come. We always aim to minimise disruption and we will make every effort to ensure our works are completed as soon as possible.
