    Merry Street

    Start date: 26 September 2017
    Approximate duration: 12 weeks

We are working to upgrade the gas network in the Merry Street area of Motherwell.

We are investing £280,000 to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

We started the first phase of our project at the end of September, working in Merry Street between Jerviston Road and Jerviston Street.

In consultation with North Lanarkshire Council, we will progress onto our second phase of work in Merry Street on Saturday 4 November. For this phase, we’ll be working further south along the road between Wilson Street and Mill Road. To ensure everyone’s safety, we need to install temporary three-way lights in Merry Street around our work area for approximately three weeks. We’ll start with the temporary traffic lights in place at the Wilson Street junction before moving these lights to the Mill Road junction. We’ll be manually controlling our temporary lights at peak times to help keep traffic flowing along Merry Street.

We’ll start the final phase of this project on Friday 1 December, when we’ll be working in Wilson Street for approximately three weeks. All being well, we’ll be able to carry out this phase without the need for temporary traffic lights.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, we will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to Motherwell residents and motorists during our essential project, including working seven days a week between 8am and 4pm.
