We are working to upgrade the gas network in the White Road area of Chatham.
We are investing £658,000 to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with Medway Council, we will start work in Symons Avenue on Monday 4 December.
During our seven-month project, we’ll be progressing through the following roads in phases:
We will be able to carry out the majority of our project without the need for temporary traffic lights or road closures. However, we will need to temporarily close a section of Scotteswood Avenue between Maidstone Road and Cottall Avenue during the school Easter holiday. Following this, we will also need to close Hillcrest Road and Kingswood Avenue to through traffic at the junction with Maidstone Road. While these closures are in place, residents will be able to access both roads from Purbeck Road. We will install advance notice signs nearer the time to keep you informed of when these closures will be in place.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Chatham residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
