We are working to upgrade the gas supply network in London Road, East
We are investing £74,000 to replace our old gas mains and services with new
plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local
In consultation with West Sussex County Council, we will be working in
London Road in two phases.
We’ll start our first phase on Monday 9 October. We need to temporarily
close one lane in London Road (A22) between Station Road and St James Road.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane around our work area for approximately five
We’ll suspend our project on Friday 17 November until the new year to
avoid disruption during the busy festive period.
On Monday 8 January, we’ll start our second phase of work in London Road
at its junction with Railway Approach. We’ll need to temporarily close London
Road at this junction for seven weeks. A signed diversion will be in place.
Further details on this project can be found in our project leaflet.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the
new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the
work is complete, East Grinstead homes and businesses will continue to enjoy
the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
Update: 8 February 2018
We’ve now finished replacing all the service pipes in the second section of London Road. Our engineers have also upgraded our gas main running across half of the Railway Approach junction. We will now restore the road surface on that side of the road before replacing the remaining section of our gas main on the other side of the carriageway. All being well, we’ll finish our East Grinstead project on Friday 23 February.
