• Eastbourne (BN21)
    Upperton Road/Station Parade (A259) area

Start date: Monday 12 February 2018
    Approximate duration: Seven weeks

UPDATE: We have now moved on to phase two of our work. However, due to the location of our gas main in Upperton Road and unforeseen engineering difficulties, we will be returning to complete phase one at a later date following consultation with East Sussex County Council. We'll keep you updated here.

We are working to upgrade the gas supply network in the Upperton Road/Station Parade (A259) area of Eastbourne.

We are investing £290,000 to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

In consultation with East Sussex County Council, the work will start on Monday 12 February. We've split the project into three phases to minimise disruption as much as possible:

    Phase one:
During phase one we'll be working in Upperton Road/Station Parade between its junctions with Station roundabout and Wharf Road for roughly three weeks. We will also be working in Station roundabout. To ensure everyone's safety while we work, we will need to restrict Upperton Road/Station Parade’s northbound carriageway to one lane. We may need to restrict the Upperton Road/Station Parade’s southbound carriageway to one lane also.

    Phase two:
Phase two of our project will last for approximately three weeks and will take place in Southfield Road between its junction with Old Orchard Road and Station roundabout, we’ll also be working in the roundabout itself. During this phase, we will need to restrict this section of Southfield Road to one lane to carry out our work safely.

    Phase three:
The final phase of work will be carried out inside the taxi entrance at Eastbourne Train Station. Our work will not affect access to the train station which will remain open as usual.

We understand that roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Eastbourne residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
