We are working to upgrade the gas network in Winchester Road, Fair Oak, Eastleigh.
We are replacing our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with Hampshire County Council, we will start work on Monday 29 January.
Our work will be carried out in three stages. Phase one will take place between Kingswood House in Winchester Road and the junction with Summerlands Road. To ensure everyone’s safety, we will need to install temporary two-way traffic lights for this phase as the work progress.
In phase two, Summerlands Road will be closed for three weeks while work is carried out to cross the junction with Winchester Road. A diversion route for vehicles will be in place for local residents to access Winchester Road. In addition, temporary two-way lights will also be required in Winchester Road. Once we have carried out our work crossing the Summerlands Road junction, we will re-open this route at the earliest opportunity.
During phase three, we’ll be working in Winchester Road at it junction with Mortimers Lane. Temporary three-way traffic light will be in use here. To reduce the inconvenience to motorists, these lights will be manual operated for 12 hours per day between 7am and 7pm.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Winchester Road residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
