• Esher
    The Drive

    Start date: 22 January 2018
    Approximate duration: Eight months

We are working to upgrade the gas network in The Drive area of Esher.

We are investing to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

In consultation with Surrey County Council, we will start work on Monday 22 January and our work will last approximately eight months.

Phase one – approximately 12 weeks
We’ll be working in the footway in Grove Way progressing from Ember Lane towards The Drive. To ensure everyone’s safety, we will need to install temporary multi-way traffic lights around our work area near the junction with The Drive.

Phase two – approximately 12 weeks
Our work will then progress to the footway in The Drive between Grove Way and Ember Lane. When we’re working near the junction with Grove Way, we will need to install temporary multi-way traffic lights around our work area to ensure everyone’s safety.

Phase three – approximately ten weeks
For the final phase of our project, we will be working in the footways in The Woodlands and in Carleton Close.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

    Update – 19 October 2018

Work has been progressing well and we have upgraded a substantial amount of our network in the area. In consultation with Surrey County Council, we have agreed to start work on Ember Lane between Embercourt Road and Chestnut Avenue from Monday 22 October for approximately 11 weeks.

We will carry out our work in three phases:

Phase 1 – We'll begin our work in Ember Lane between its junction with Elm Tree Avenue and just north of the tennis courts on Ember Lane.

Phase 2 – Our engineers will be working in Ember Lane between its junctions with Elm Tree Avenue and Chestnut Avenue.

Phase 3 – We'll be upgrading our network between the tennis courts and the junction of Embercourt Road.

To ensure everyone’s safety, we need to install temporary traffic lights around our work area throughout all three phases, which will move with us as we progress along Ember Lane. To keep the traffic flowing, we'll be manually controlling the traffic lights from Monday to Friday between 6.30am and 9.30am and from 4pm to 6.30pm.

Following our work on Ember Lane we will continue to upgrade our network in the area with minimal disruption to road users.
