We are working to carry out essential maintenance on our gas network in Balcombe Road, Horley, to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with Surrey County Council, we will start work on Monday 19 November. We’ll be working in Balcombe Road at its junction with Station Road and Smallfield Road for approximately five weeks.
To keep everyone safe around our work area, we need to temporarily close both Station Road and Smallfield Road at the Balcombe Road junction. Traffic will not be able to enter or exit Station Road or Smallfield Road onto Balcombe Road for the duration of our project. Signed diversions will be in place for motorists.
Motorists travelling along Smallfield Road into Horley will be diverted via Smallfield (Redehall Lane) and the B2037 Antlands Lane to rejoin Balcombe Road. Access to Station Road will be maintained via Victoria Road.
Where possible, we’ll be working between 7am and 7pm on weekdays to complete our project as quickly and safely as possible. Thames Water will also be carrying out work at this junction while we complete our network maintenance to avoid further disruption to the area. Once Thames Water’s work is finished, we will return to the junction to carry out resurfacing work and clear our site.
All being well, we’ll be able to reopen Station Road and Smallfield Road before Christmas.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, this maintenance is essential to ensure Horley homes and businesses continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
Update - 11 December 2018
We've completed our essential maintenance work in Balcombe Road at its junction with Station Road and Smallfield Road.
Our resurfacing work was completed over the weekend and the existing traffic light system has been reinstated.
We were able to safely clear our site, remove the temporary traffic lights and reopen Station Road and Smallfield Road on Monday 10 December, approximately two weeks ahead of schedule.
We'd like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while we carried out this essential work to our gas network.
