We are working to upgrade the gas network in the Highdown Drive area of Littlehampton.
As part of this project, we need to replace a section of our gas main in the A259 Worthing Road at its junction with Highdown Road. In consultation with West Sussex County Council, we will start work on Monday 26 February.
We will maintain traffic in both directions along the A259 throughout our project. However, we need to temporarily close the central island at this junction for two weeks. This means that traffic will not be able to turn right into Highdown Drive from the eastbound A259 Worthing Road during this time. There will also be no right-turn exit from Highdown Drive onto the eastbound A259 Worthing Road.
A signed diversion will be in place via Wick Roundabout for traffic leaving Highdown Drive and wishing to travel eastwards along the A259. Traffic wishing to enter Highdown Drive from the A259 can continue do so from the westbound A259. Motorists will also still be able to exit Highdown Drive and turn left onto the A259 Worthing Road westbound.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Littlehampton residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
