We are working to upgrade the gas network in the Rye Lane area of Peckham.
We are investing over £1 million to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with Southwark Council, our project started on Monday 7 January and will last approximately 13 months.
We're working in Rye Lane in six phases from Hanover Park towards Sternhall Lane. Each phase will last between approximately six and nine weeks and we'll need to temporarily close a section of Rye Lane to through traffic around our work area. A signed diversion route via Hanover Park and Consort Road will be in place for motorists.
Pedestrian access to homes and businesses along Rye Lane will be maintained at all times. We'll also maintain access within our closure for delivery vehicles supplying Rye Lane businesses.
Cyclists should follow our signed diversion route via Hanover Park and Consort Road. However, with pedestrian access maintained along Rye Lane throughout our project, cyclists can dismount and walk with their bicycle approximately 100m around our closure on Rye Lane before continuing journeys.
Further details on this project can be found in our customer leaflet.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Peckham residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
