We’re investing £887,000 to upgrade our gas network in the Kendrick Road and London Road area of Reading.
This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.
Following discussions with Reading Borough Council, our project will start on Monday 24 April and last until September.
There will be four phases, which are described below.
To ensure everyone’s safety, the use of temporary traffic lights will be necessary at various stages. We’ll also need to amend the existing road layout later into our work.
We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means once the work has been completed, local homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
Phase 1 – start date: 24 AprilLocation: Christchurch Road (opposite number 13 to the junction with Kendrick Road
Duration: 3 weeks
Two-way lights changing to three-way as we approach junction with Kendrick Road.
Phase 2 – approximate start date: 15 MayLocation: Kendrick Road, junction with Christchurch Road to London Road.
Duration: 11 weeks
Three-way lights will be required until we’re clear of Christchurch Road. This will be followed by two-way lights all the way to the London Road junction, with some suspension of parking.
Phase 3 – approximate start date: 31 JulyLocation: Kendrick Road/London Road junction.
During this phase, there will be no left turn from London Road into Kendrick Road. A diversion will be in place via Silver Street, Mount Pleasant, Whitley Street and Christchurch Road. We will reopen the left turn and then implement single lane closures as we cross London Road.
Phase 4 – approximate start date: 21 AugustLocation: Christchurch Road (number 13 to junction with Whitley Road)
Duration: 4 weeks
To complete our work, we will need to close the roundabout at the junction of Christchurch Road with Whitley Street. The traffic flow at the roundabout will be amended. Three-way lights will be use while the direction of flow round the roundabout will be reversed.
