We are working to upgrade the gas network in Lower Road, Rotherhithe.
We will be replacing our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with Southwark Council, we will start work on Monday 8 January for approximately 12 weeks.
We’ll be working in the northbound carriageway of Lower Road between Ann Moss Way and Surrey Quays Road. However, traffic will be maintained in both directions. Signs will be in place to direct cyclists past our work area. We will also need to close the bus lane outside St Olave’s Nursing Home between Ann Moss Way and Rotherhithe Evangelical Free Church.
From 5 March until the end of the project there will be no left turn from Lower Road into Ann Moss Way. A diversion will be in place for motorists.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
Update: 26 January 2018
As part of our ongoing engagement with Southwark Council, we have been advised that the Cycle London event will be taking place on Sunday 4 March. Lower Road, Rotherhithe forms part of the cycle route and as such we have agreed to suspend our work on Monday 26 February to allow all reinstatement work to be carried out and the site to be cleared in time for the Cycle London event to be set up and run on the Sunday. We will then re-commence our work in Lower Road on Monday 5 March.
It is very difficult at this stage to say what phase of our work we will be at when we come to suspend, because we are currently experiencing a number of engineering difficulties that are causing some delays. We are doing all we can to overcome these as quickly and safely as possible, however as a result we are running slightly behind schedule. We will still be working extended hours to complete our work as safely and quickly as possible.
