We are working to upgrade the gas network in Barkham Road/Bearwood Road, Wokingham.
We are replacing our old gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
In consultation with Wokingham Borough Council, our project will begin on Monday 16 January and last for approximately nine months. We’ll carry out this work in phases to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Phase one, approximately three months:Work will begin in Barkham Road at its junction with Barkham Street and will progress in sections heading eastwards to Magnolia Way. To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary traffic lights will be in place around our work area.Update Monday 23 January:
On Wednesday, three-way traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Barkham Road and Bearwood Road. These will be positioned 50 metres each side
of the roundabout to enable us to complete our work at the road crossing and into Bearwood Road. It will also ensure we do not require lights at this location
Phase two, approximately three months:During phase two of our project, we’ll be working in Sandy Lane, Doles Lane and Ormonde Road.
Some parking restrictions may be implemented but you’ll be notified in advance.
Phase three, approximately three months:Phase three of our project will take place in Barkham Road, between its junctions with Magnolia Way and Molly Millars Lane. We’ve planned this part of the project during the school holidays to minimise disruption as much as possible.
To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of this phase.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
We're also doing other upgrade work in Wokingham at present: in the Easthampstead Road/Gipsy Lane/Murdoch Road area, as well as in the Finchampstead area.
