Metallic pipelines are typically made of iron or steel, which is susceptible to corrosion and cracking under stress.
At the moment, if a distribution network wanted to measure the condition of a pipe asset, significant excavation works are required to expose the section of pipe to be surveyed. We need a technique which allows us to measures factors such as pipe wall loss and stress in a live gas environment.
The project will develop a suite of sensors which will be mounted on the robotic transport platform developed during elements one and two.
