• Molesey
    Walton Road

    Start date: 2 January 2018
    Approximate duration: Five months

We are working to upgrade the gas network in the Walton Road area of Molesey.

We are investing £1.4 million to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

In consultation with Surrey County Council, we will start work on Tuesday 2 January. Over five months, our engineers will progress along Walton Road in two phases. Following consultation with Surrey County Council, we have agreed to alter our original plans to better coordinate with other utility providers in order to minimise disruption in the area. Full details are below.

Phase one – approximately fifteen weeks

We started our project on Tuesday 2 January in Walton Road between School Road and Hansler Grove. From Tuesday 30 January we’ll need to extend our work area and we will be working between Spencer Road and School Road. We will need temporary traffic lights in place to keep everyone safe around our work areas and we’ll manually operate our traffic lights during peak times to help traffic flow along Walton Road.

From mid-March we’ll move to work in Kent Road and progress westwards towards Dennis Road. While we’re working in Kent Road, we’ll need to temporarily close the junction with Walton Road around our work area with access maintained for residents via Vine Road. We’ll then work in Park Road followed by Dennis Road. These roads will be consecutively closed at their junctions with Walton Road with access via Vine Road. We’ll also need to install temporary traffic lights in Walton Road around these side road closures to help keep traffic moving around our work areas.

Phase two – approximately ten weeks

When we have completed phase one, we’ll be working in Walton Road from Grange Road to Rosemary Avenue. We’ll have temporary traffic lights around our site as we progress westwards along Walton Road. We’ll continue to manually control the traffic lights during this phase.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, people will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

    Update – 5 September 2018

Our project is progressing well although we have encountered some engineering difficulties causing a delay in completing our work. We're currently working in Walton Road between Grange Road and New Road.

From Monday 17 September we'll be working in Walton Road between New Road and St Peters Road, and we expect to complete this work by Friday 21 September. To ensure everyone’s safety, we will need to install temporary traffic lights around our work area that we’ll continue to manually control to keep the traffic flowing.

We still have some further work to do in Walton Road and we're currently planning this in partnership with Surrey County Council.
