Bournemouth, Victoria Avenue

We're carrying out essential gas network upgrades in the Victoria Avenue area of Bournemouth.

This work involves replacing old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

In close consultation with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, our project will start on Monday 5 September and last approximately four months. This work will be carried out by our contractor JDT Utilities on our behalf.

The network upgrades will be carried out in several phases and involves some road closures to help keep everyone safe around our sites.

From Monday 5 September, our engineers will begin to replace our old pipes in several roads in the Victoria Avenue area. These initial works will have limited incursion on to affected carriageways and will have minimal impact on road users.

However, from Monday 24 October, we'll begin the first of four high-impact phases where we will need to close sections of road around our work area to ensure the safety of our engineers and the public. Each of these phases is expected to take two weeks to complete. Once we complete each phase, we will progress straight on to the next phase.

Phase one: Bengal Road, between its junctions with Fernside Road and Namu Road

Phase two: Victoria Avenue, between its junctions with Namu Road and Eldon Road

Phase three: Victoria Avenue, between its junctions with Eldon Road and Victoria Park Road

Phase four: Boundary Road, in the footpath between its junctions with Norton Road and Eldon Road

These sections will be closed to motorists. Affected road users should follow the signed diversion route indicated on the map below.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

We've planned this project collaboratively with SSE who will be carrying out their own utility works in Boundary Road from Saturday 22 October. SSE will be installing temporary traffic lights in Boundary Road, near to its junction with Glenmore Close, for approximately one week. Boundary Road is part of the diversion route while Bengal Road is closed during this time.

Any updates to our project will be published on this page.
