Castle Point, Castle Lane West

From Monday 2 October, we'll be carrying out an emergency gas main replacement on Castle Lane West roundabout at the junction with Yeomans Road, for approximately eight weeks.

We're replacing a medium pressure gas main which provides gas supplies to over 300 homes and businesses. Following multiple emergency repairs, a full replacement of the main is required and needs to be completed now before the gas pressure increases in the network over winter.

To avoid a complete closure of the entire roundabout, our engineers have designed a phased programme of work to help minimise disruption as much as possible.

Update - Friday 20 October

Following work on site and further network analysis, plans for replacing the gas network have changed.

We are now able to complete this work using an insertion method, which means traffic management and phasing of work will change as follows.

Project dates -  Monday 2 October to 20 November

Castle Lane West (west side)

Work began on Monday 2 October – the lane closure will remain in place for the duration of the work.

From Sunday 22 October – Yoemans Road

From 10pm, we’ll be temporarily closing the left hand lane of Yoemans Road at the junction of the roundabout and lights. Vehicles will be filtered into one lane at the lights.

From Monday 23 October – Castle Lane West (east side)

From 10pm, we’ll be temporarily closing the lane closest to the central reservation. Traffic will be filtered into one lane.

Original phase plans

Phase one – from Monday 2 October

An eastbound lane closure is required from the junction of Castle Lane (side road) to the traffic lights.  One lane will remain open.

This lane closure will be in place for the duration of the work (approximately eight weeks)

Phase two - from Monday 15 October for approximately one week

Engineers will be working from the traffic lights across the junction of Yeomans Road exiting the roundabout. We will need to have a temporary road closure in place during this phase.

Road users will be diverted down to Woodbury roundabout on to Hamblin Way through Castle Point.

Phase three – from Monday 23 October for approximately one week

We'll need to temporarily close the road to stop traffic using Yeomans roundabout exiting Yeomans Road.

Road users will be diverted out of Yeomans Road down Castle Lane West to the Woodbury Roundabout.

Phase four – from Monday 30 October for approximately four weeks

We'll need to have a temporary road closure stopping traffic turning left out of Yeomans Road.

Road users will be diverted out of Yeomans Road around the Yeomans roundabout and down Castle Lane West towards the Woodbury roundabout.

Bus routes will be impacted and we advise passengers to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to bus stop locations, routes and timetables.

We appreciate how disruptive our work will be for the local community and road users. It is an extremely challenging location and we will be doing all we can to complete our work as quickly and as safely as we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while our engineers carry out this essential work to keep your community safe.
