Project update - 13 November 2023

Our work to upgrade our gas network in the Crown Road area is now complete and our team has left site.

Additional reinstatement work is required in Stevens Brae, and we'll return to complete this work in the New Year to avoid disruption during the festive period. There is currently a temporary road surface in place.

We'd like to thank the local community for your patience and understanding during our essential work.

We're upgrading our network in the Crown Road area of Inverness to ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is developed to nearby homes and businesses.

We've planned this work in close consultation with Highland Council. This work will start on Monday 31 July and is expected to end by Friday 27 October. It will be carried out in two phases to help minimise disruption while we carry out this essential work to replace our old pipes.

Phase one

Our engineers will start on the uphill section from the Eastgate car park entrance on Crown Road to its roundabout junction with Crown Circus and Crown Drive, for approximately four weeks.

Temporary traffic lights will be installed around our work area to ensure everyone's safety.

Motorists exiting Eastgate car park will only be able to turn left during this phase.

We also need to suspend the bus stop on Crown Road.

Phase two

Following the completion of the first phase, our engineers will begin to upgrade our network downhill from Eastgate car park.

For the majority of this phase, temporary traffic lights will be in operation although motorists exiting the car park will now be able to leave in either direction.

However, for a period of three to four days, we will need to close the road for everyone's safety. The left turn only exit from the car park will be reverted to during this time. A signed diversion will be in place for affected motorists. We will provide an update nearer the time on when this closure will take place.

We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, once the work is complete, Inverness residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
