Project update: 13 November

Our project in the Morningside Road area has progressed well.

In November 2023 we completed phase one of our project, and we've been working in the following streets during phase two: progressing well and we've now completed phase one of our work.

  • Morningside Road
  • Morningside Place
  • Blackford Road

Road closures are in place at different times but we'll be doing everything we can to minimise disruption.

Our final section of phase two is taking place in Blackford Road and will be completed by the end of March 2024.

Our plan was to begin phase three of our project in Strathearn Road, Greenhill Park,  Morningside Park, and Morningside Terrace upon completion of phase two.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our project will now pause once phase two is complete, and we'll return to carry out phase three of our gas network upgrade project at a later date.

We'll update this web page with details on when we will return to the area.

We know this is a busy area and would like to thank the local community for your continued patience and understanding during our work.

We’ll shortly begin work to replace our old metal gas mains and services with new plastic pipes, to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the Morningside Road area.

We're aware this is a busy area so our work has been split into phases to reduce disruption as much as possible.

After close consultation with the local authority, phase one of our project will begin on Monday 17 July and take approximately 13 weeks to complete. We're carrying out this phase now as it's during the school holidays and the roads are typically quieter during peak times.

Phase one of our project will begin in Craighouse Road, and our engineering team will then continue to the following streets: Myreside Road, Colinton Road, South Gillsland Road, Merchiston Gardens, Meggetland Terrace and Balcarres Street.

During our project, some junction closures will also be enforced to ensure everyone's safety.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place at times, alongside on-street parking restrictions. Access will be given to driveways and entrance gates at all times unless previously agreed with the occupier.

We'll update this page with details of phase two nearer to the start date.
