From Monday 8 January for two weeks – one way road closure in place
Our engineers will return to commission the section of new gas main installed from outside Parcel Force to the bridge opposite Solent Motorhomes.
We’ll also be carrying out reinstatement of the road surface – all being well and the road surface is set and safe to drive on, we hope to have the road back open by Sunday 21 January.
For everyone’s safety, we’ll need to temporarily close Upton Road one way from Fleetsbridge roundabout. A signed diversion will be in place.
Return to complete final section of replacement on bridge – opposite the industrial estate
The work to replace this section of gas main has been extremely challenging. The section of main located opposite Solent Motorhomes/Industrial Park has connection points that run across the road, dropping down into the rear gardens and under outbuildings of the properties on Porter Road. The team had hoped they would be able to carry out the replacement and required connection work on the roadside but unfortunately this isn’t possible.
To avoid major works required in private gardens and disruption on Upton Road, a decision has been made to look at alternative gas routes that will allow us to abandon this section of gas main. As soon as we have investigated alternative engineering options, we will be liaising with the council and local councillors to put plans in place. We will keep residents and businesses informed of the outcome and how these works might impact you.
Please be assured gas supplies will not be affected. Over the coming weeks, engineers will continue to regularly monitor leaks to make sure they remain at safe levels. This will continue while next steps are planned and confirmed.
We appreciate how disruptive our work has been for the community. Unfortunately, the gas main is very old and has been under the ground longer than the properties that have been developed around it – until we dig down to the gas main, the team are unable to fully understand the engineering work required.
