We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

We have a number of helpful frequently asked questions at the bottom of this page, under the Help and advice heading.
Emergency gas pipe repairs
When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.
Wednesday 27 March - Pean Hill, Whitstable
Our engineers have been working in Pean Hill under two-way temporary traffic lights to locate the source of a gas leak.
This has now been identified, and we need to carry out urgent repairs to our gas network. We need to carry out further excavation work to do the repairs using specialist equipment, and that will not leave enough room for traffic to pass safely.
To ensure everyone's safety while we complete our critical work, the road will be closed near the junction with Pean Court Road from 3pm on Wednesday 27 March, and will remain closed over the Easter weekend until 16:30 on the 7th April.
Local signed diversions are in place for motorists.
We understand this is a busy route and we'd like to apologise for any disruption caused.
Wednesday 27 March - Devizes Road, Salisbury
Our engineers are currently attending a gas escape on Devizes Road in Salisbury, where gas readings have been found in two properties on either side of the road. The gas readings are at a safe level for residents to remain in their homes and are being closely monitored by our team, who will remain on site and will be working through the night to carry out repairs.
For everyone’s safety, we temporarily closed Devizes Road in the early hours of this morning due to the road being too narrow to safely provide access past our works under two-way lights.
We're making good progress and hope to complete our work by this weekend.
Tuesday 26 March - Whytemans Brae, Kirkcaldy
Our engineers have been carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network in Whytemans Brae.
The repairs are more complex than first anticipated, and we're now required to close the road between its junctions with Hayfield Road and Chestnut Avenue. A signed diversion route is in place for motorists and we are in contact with the Ambulance Service to ensure continued access to Victoria Hospital.
The health centre remains closed for safety reasons.
At this stage it's too early to say how long our repairs will take to complete, but we'd like to reassure you we are working as quickly and safely as possible.
Thursday 21 March - A26 Tonbridge Road, Maidstone
We’ve made great progress to repair our gas main in Tonbridge Road, between Bower Place and Terrace Road. The road will fully reopen from this evening (Thursday 21 March).
Until this evening, Tonbridge Road will be closed westbound at this location for everyone's safety. A signed diversion is in place for road users.
We’re sorry for any inconvenience this ongoing work may cause and thanks to the Maidstone community for your patience and support while we work urgently to repair the gas network.
Tuesday 19 March - A28 Sturry Road, Canterbury
We've completed urgent repairs to our gas network in the A28 Sturry Road, Canterbury. Temporary traffic lights will remain in place, near the junction with New Town Street, to allow us to safely restore the road surface.
We aim to remove the lights by around 5pm tomorrow [Wednesday 20 March].
Tuesday 19 March - Summerfield Road, Dunbar
We're carrying out repairs to our gas main in Summerfield Road, Dunbar, following reports of a gas leak. For everyone’s safety, Summerfield Road’s junction with Belhaven Road is closed. Local signed diversions are in place.
We hope to complete our repairs today. We will then need to restore the road surface before the road can be safely reopened. All going well, the road will be reinstated and reopened as normal by Monday 25 March.
We'd like to thank the Dunbar community for your patience and understanding while we repair your gas network.
Friday 15 March - Dover Road, Guston
Our engineers are carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network following third party damage.
Dover Road has been closed in both directions for safety reasons near to Guston Primary School, which has also been closed.
We are working as quickly and safety as possible to complete our repairs and reopen both the road and school.
Tuesday 12 March - North Farm Road, Tunbridge Wells
Urgent work to repair our gas network near the roundabout where North Farm Road and Upper Grosvenor Road meet has been completed.
We're working to restore the road surface to its original condition. For everyone’s continued safety, three-way traffic lights remain in place at this roundabout. Cambrian Road also remains closed at this junction, with local diversions in place for motorists.
All being well, we'll be able to clear our site and fully reopen all roads today.
Monday 11 March - Commonside East, Mitcham Common
Our contractor Phoenix Civils is undertaking planned maintenance designed to protect steel pipes from corrosion. The work will take approximately five weeks and is part of our wider programme of work in the local area this year.
A road closure with a signed, small diversion is in place for motorists. Pedestrian access to properties and businesses will always be maintained throughout the project.
Monday 11 March - Hillington Road South, Glasgow
Urgent repairs to our gas network along Hillington Road South continue.
Last week we completed our work in the southbound lane of Hillington Road South, near to its junction with Cardonald Court. The road has been re-opened throughout the weekend.
We now need to complete our repairs by closing the northbound lane in the same location. Southbound traffic will not be affected this time however, diversions will be in place for northbound motorists.
All going well, we hope to complete repairs, reinstate the road surface and open the road as normal by the end of this week.
We'd like to thank local residents, businesses and motorists for your ongoing patience and understanding as we work to repair your gas network.
