Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)
Why we’re working together
When a child is seriously ill or dies, families can face significant emotional, practical and financial challenges. Alongside caring responsibilities and grief, many experience reduced income, rising household costs and concerns about keeping their home safe and warm.
As Scotland’s national children’s hospice service, Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
For many CHAS families, energy is not simply a household bill. It is an essential part of caring for a child at home. Medical equipment such as ventilators, feeding pumps and suction devices can significantly increase energy use and household costs, whilst caring responsibilities can limit opportunities to work. Families may also experience financial hardship during bereavement and other significant life changes.
Following our impactful previous partnership with CHAS, we launched a new programme in April 2026. Together, we’re providing practical support with energy, household finances and wellbeing, helping CHAS families stay safe, warm and financially secure while focusing on what matters most.
What we’re achieving together
- Supporting households with in-depth energy advice and safeguarding in hospices, at hospitals and at home
- Providing practical advice on home energy efficiency measures
- Promoting the Priority Services Register and helping families sign up for the free service
- Helping increase household incomes through benefits checks and accessing unclaimed grants
- Raising awareness of carbon monoxide safety and providing free CO alarms to households most at risk of CO harm
- Upskilling CHAS staff and volunteers on energy safeguarding and fuel poverty awareness
