Why we’re working together
Frontline third-sector volunteers and workers may not have the carbon monoxide safety awareness they need when they’re working in the homes of vulnerable people. This lack of knowledge can put both them and the people they support at increased risk of CO poisoning. For example, they may not recognise common sources of CO, identify warning signs or confidently recognise the symptoms of CO exposure.
We share an ambition with the Gas Safe Charity to help people be gas safe by informing, educating and supporting those who need it most. We both understand that by increasing awareness of carbon monoxide, we can reduce harm.
Together with the other gas network companies, we developed the free Think CO app as a quick and easy resource for frontline teams that details the sources, signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The app – which can be used even if they don’t have phone signal during a home visit – offers immediate advice on steps to take if they see signs of CO or symptoms of CO poisoning during a home visit.
We’re also proud to connect Gas Safe Charity with many of our Safe & Warm community partners to provide carbon monoxide awareness training for frontline workers. The charity has provided their e-learning package for partners, such as Citizens Advice Scotland, to embed in their own learning platform. Additionally, Gas Safe Charity has supported our partner Citizens Advice England and Wales to create their own in-house CO safety training, and created a bespoke training programme for The Scouts.

Accessing Think CO training
As one of our Safe & Warm community partners, if you have frontline teams at your organisation who could benefit from free Think CO training, please visit the Think CO online workshop booking platform to book one of the upcoming workshops.
Alternatively, we’ve created a free CO safety webinar that you can access at any time. We’ve also created a BSL version.
