SGN is investing £1.4 million to upgrade our gas network across the Craigshill area of Livingston, helping ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come.

What we're doing
The project will replace ageing metal gas mains that are reaching the end of their useful life, with modern plastic pipe. It will ensure local homes and businesses continue to benefit from a safe and reliable gas supply for many decades to come.
When we'll be working
Our project will start from 7 September 2026. The upgrade programme will be delivered in different areas at various times until spring 2027 to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Schedule of work
Area one – From 7 September 2026
- Grass verge works that leads from the junction of the Almond Road Interchange and Livingston Road at Lidl. No impact to road users. Footpath closure at the Livingston Road end.
Area Two – From 7 September 2026
- Closure of the New Calder Mill Cycle Bridge. Diversions will be in place for pedestrians.
- Intermittent temporary traffic lights on Calder Park Road to allow for works access.
Area Three – From 6 October 2026
- A899 Southbound lane closure between Houston and Cousland Interchanges.
Area Four – From 5 January 2027
- Closure of both Craigshill Interchange slip roads.
- Temporary closures at Almond Interchange during different stages of the project.
Area Five – From 2 February 2027
- Temporary closures of both slip roads coming off the A899 Livingston Road at the Cousland Road junction.
- Temporary traffic lights on Cousland Road, coming from Craigshill heading towards to St John’s Hospital.
Working together to minimise disruption
We've worked closely with West Lothian Council to carefully plan this project and coordinate the work to minimise disruption wherever possible.
These pipes have reliably served Craigshill for decades, but they’re now at the stage where replacement is critical to ensuring gas continues to flow safely across the network.
As much of our project will impact on busy routes, road users should plan ahead and allow additional journey time once our works are underway.
