We’re carrying out essential work to upgrade our gas network on the A76 between Kirkconnel and Sanquhar.
Our existing gas main, which runs close to the River Nith, has been affected by corrosion. To ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply, we need to take this section of our network out of service and install a new gas main in a different location.
This will ensure we can continue to provide homes and businesses in the community with a safe, reliable and efficient gas supply for decades to come.
We’ve planned this work in consultation with Dumfries and Galloway Council and will install new, longer-lasting plastic pipe as part of the project.
Our work will begin on Tuesday 29 September and last for approximately 12 weeks. It will be carried out in three phases to help minimise disruption:
- Phase 1 – Two-way lights will be in place on the A76 between Kirkconnel and Sanquhar at the sewage works from Tuesday 29 September until Monday 26 October.
- Phase 2 – Two-way lights will be in place on the A76 between Kirkconnel and Sanquhar. The lights will move from the sewage works to the A76 junction with Hyslop Street from Monday 26 November until Monday 30 November.
- Phase 3 – Three-way lights will be in place at the A76 junction with Hyslop Street near Kirkconnel from Monday 30 November to Sunday 20 December.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
