We'll begin essential gas network upgrades on the A96 in Inverness on Monday 9 November 2026.
These works have been planned in close consultation with Amey and Transport Scotland.
The project will increase the capacity of the gas network so it can continue to meet demand from homes and businesses now and in the future.
Phase one
Phase one will start on Monday 9 November and last until approximately Monday 11 January 2027.
During phase one, we will be working on the grass verge of the A96 between Raigmore Interchange and the roundabout junction of Eastfield Way (the road leading into Inverness Shopping Park).
We'll be able to carry out this work without traffic management. However, at the beginning of phase one, we may occasionally need to introduce a short nearside lane restriction on the A96 approaching the roundabout for Inverness Shopping Park to allow access for large work vehicles.
Any restrictions will be scheduled outside peak traffic times.
Phase two
Phase two will start on Monday 11 January 2027 and last until approximately Friday 30 April 2027.
During phase two, we will be working in the A96 nearside eastbound lane. We will need to excavate in the carriageway and can no longer work in the grass verge due to the close proximity of underground pipework and cables of other utilities.
To allow our engineers to work safely, the nearside eastbound lane between Raigmore Interchange and the roundabout junction of Eastfield Way will be closed. The map below shows the area where the lane closure will be in place.
This project is essential to help maintain a safe and reliable gas supply for homes and businesses across Inverness. We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents, businesses and motorists while we complete this important work.
