Our planned gas network upgrades
We're preparing to start essential work to upgrade the gas network in the A224 London Road area of Dunton Green and Riverhead.
This work will ensure nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.
Our project follows close consultation with the local authority and other key stakeholders. It will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses as indicated below:
Phase one
- Starting Monday 22 June
- Lasting approximately two weeks
- Ivy House Lane will be closed at its junction with A224 London Road
- Temporary traffic lights will be in operation in A224 London Road between Mount Pleasant and Great Dunton House
Phase two
- Starting Monday 6 July
- Lasting approximately two weeks
- The temporary traffic lights will move further along A224 London Road at its junction with Donnington Road
- Give and take traffic management will also be in place around our site in Dorrington Road
Phase three
- Starting Monday 20 July
- Lasting approximately two weeks
- The temporary traffic lights on A224 London Road will then be in operation outside property number 128 and Station Road
Phase four
- Starting Monday 3 August
- Lasting approximately three weeks
- Temporary traffic lights will be installed on A224 London Road around our work area between Bullfinch Lane and Walker House
- Another set of temporary lights will be in operation along Hamlin Road at its junction with A224 London Road
- Bullfinch Lane will also need to be closed at its junction with A224 London Road
Phase five
- Starting Monday 24 August
- Lasting approximately two weeks
- Temporary traffic lights will be installed along Station Road between its junctions with A224 London Road and Kingswood Road
- Crescent Road and Kingswood Road will both be shut at their junctions with Station Road
Phase six
- Starting Monday 7 September
- Lasting approximately two weeks
- Milton Road will need to be closed at its junction with A224 London Road
What do the closures mean for me?
- Signed diversions will be in place for affected motorists.
- Vehicle access for residents within the closure points will change as works progress. Our engineers and local signage will keep road users and residents informed.
- All businesses will remain open around our closure areas. Access to these commercial properties will be maintained throughout.
- Bus routes may be impacted. We advise residents to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to services/routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
- We’ll work with the local council to ensure refuse collections can continue to be made with as little disruption as possible.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, local residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
