Our planned gas network upgrades
We started essential work to upgrade the gas network in the Westwood Lane area of Welling. This work will ensure nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.
Our project follows close consultation with the local authority and other key stakeholders. It will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses.
To ensure everyone's safety, the following roads will be closed around our work area as our project progresses:
Bradenham Avenue
- Starting Monday 26 January
- Lasting approximately one weeks
- Our engineers will be working between property 74 and its junction with Westwood Lane.
Danson Mead
- Starting Monday 9 February
- Lasting approximately three weeks
- Our engineers will be working the full length of this road starting from the Park View Road end.
Park View Road
- Starting Friday 21 February
- Lasting approximately five weeks
- Our engineers will be working between Park View Road and Welling High Street
Danson Mead
- Starting Monday 2 March
- Lasting approximately two weeks
- Our engineers will return to Danson Mead near its junction with Park View Road.
Roseacre Road
- Starting Monday 2 March
- Lasting approximately three weeks
- Our engineers will be working near its junction with Park View Road.
Park View Road
- Starting Monday 30 March
- Lasting approximately five weeks
- We will return to Park View Road and upgrade our gas network between Danson Lane and Welling High Street.
What do the closures mean for me?
- Signed diversions will be in place for affected motorists.
- Vehicle access for residents within the closure points will change as works progress. Our engineers and local signage will keep road users and residents informed.
- All businesses will remain open around our closure areas. Access to these commercial properties will be maintained throughout.
- Bus routes may be impacted. We advise residents to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to services/routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
- We’ll work with the local council to ensure refuse collections can continue to be made with as little disruption as possible.
- Emergency services will be informed about the road closure and will have contingency plans in place while roads are closed.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, local residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
