SGN Talent & Development Coordinator Rebecca Bush

Our Talent & Development Coordinator Rebecca Bush started at SGN a week before lockdown began in the UK.

I started my career in energy industry recruitment after graduating from the University of Portsmouth. Recruiting for the oil, gas and water sectors was an excellent experience, but I realised my passion is supporting individuals working within the utilities industry.

I started working as a Talent and Development Coordinator at SGN earlier this year. The role fits me perfectly as I’m able to build relationships with others in the business and provide them with the training they need to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

Working for SGN has been a breath of fresh air. I began working here a week before coronavirus lockdown measures were imposed in the UK, but the support I’ve received has made the transition to a new role during these unprecedented times a lot easier.

I’m also participating in the company’s pilot Stepping into Management course. Having the opportunity to be involved in this course and learn from others around the business so early on is helping to build my management skillset. I look forward to continuing to develop and what my future at SGN has in store.

Adapting to ensure everyone has what they need to do their job well

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted almost every aspect of work and life. We’ve adapted our practices to ensure we’re carrying out our jobs effectively but helping to keep everyone safe at the same time.

Training for colleagues was postponed as lockdown measures were introduced in the UK back in March. We took this time to reassess and plan courses so we could reintroduce training when deemed safe to do so.

We’re gradually beginning to resume training for our teams. The sessions are held virtually on Microsoft Teams which ensures people do not have to travel or risk spreading the virus. In this new way of working, it’s important we ask for valuable and constructive feedback from our trainees to help us to continue to improve.

It’s brilliant that we’re able to help our people to continue to develop despite the impact of coronavirus. We’re all adapting to the new normal but we’re striving to keep providing an efficient service to keep everyone safe and warm.
