Warm Welcome Spaces
Why we’re working together
Since the pandemic, there has been a rapid growth in the number of people using warm spaces such as libraries, community centres and faith-based spaces to keep warm during colder months.
Warm Welcome is a UK-wide campaign that coordinates and supports a large network of free, warm and welcoming community spaces. The ambition is to ensure that everyone can find a safe place to connect, keep warm and feel they belong.
The organisation began as an emergency response to the cost-of-living and energy crisis, helping people who were struggling to afford to heat their homes. It has since grown into a year-round movement, focused on tackling both poverty and isolation.
We’re proudly leading a joint-GDN programme to strengthen the capacity of trusted community spaces to support vulnerable households in energy crisis.
Building on our trial project, our new programme with Cadent sees us expand our support across more Warm Spaces to ensure vulnerable households are identified earlier, supported more effectively and connected to the full range of help available.
What we’re achieving together
- Co-developing a training programme to upskilling Warm Welcome Space team to identify and support households in energy crisis
- Educating households on energy safeguarding and winter resilience
- Raising awareness of carbon monoxide safety and providing CO alarms when needed
- Providing winter warm packs to help households in crisis stay warm at home
- Connecting households to specialist energy, debt and benefits support from our Safe & Warm community partners
