Why we’re working together
Since the pandemic, there has been a rapid growth in the number of people using warm spaces such as libraries, churches and community centres to keep warm during colder months.
Warm Welcome is a UK-wide campaign that coordinates and supports a large network of free, warm and welcoming community spaces. The ambition is to ensure that everyone can find a safe place to connect, keep warm and feel they belong.
The organisation began as an emergency response to the cost-of-living and energy crisis, helping people who were struggling to afford to heat their homes. It has since grown into a year-round movement, focused on tackling both poverty and isolation.
We’re proudly partnering with Warm Welcome on a trial programme to expand the support offered by existing Spaces to include energy safeguarding. Together, we’re co-designing a training programme that meets the needs of Warm Welcome Spaces to identify, triage and support households in energy crisis.
Project objectives
- Onboarding 10 grassroots organisations with energy safeguarding workshops and resources to support vulnerable households
- Providing 1,000 households with winter resilience and energy safeguarding information
- Educating households on carbon monoxide safety and providing free alarms for eligible households
- Providing winter warm packs to help households in crisis stay warm at home
- Connecting households to specialist support through our Safe & Warm partnership network
How we’re working together
Community energy safeguarding support
We’re expanding the support services offered by 10 existing grassroots community organisations within the Warm Welcome Spaces network.
We’re developing the skills and capabilities of these Spaces to provide communities with immediate and longer-term energy safeguarding support. This includes energy efficiency advice, raising awareness of the Priority Services Register and educating households on the dangers of carbon monoxide.
We’re also providing crisis support for those in need, including warm packs that help households to stay safe and warm when they return home.
In addition to our expanded energy safeguarding service, Warm Welcome Space teams can refer households to our Safe & Warm partnership network for specialist, in-depth help with issues including income maximisation and debt advice.
