Green gases will play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions over the coming decades, helping to decarbonise both homes and industry while utilising existing energy infrastructure. As the UK's leading gas distribution network for biomethane connections, SGN is already demonstrating how low-carbon gases can be delivered at scale today, while pioneering hydrogen projects that could play an important role in the energy system of tomorrow.
Biomethane
Through our leading role in the Green Gas Taskforce, we are also working with industry partners to accelerate the growth of green gases across Britain.
Alongside biomethane, we continue to lead the way in hydrogen innovation. Our pioneering H100 Fife project is providing critical evidence on the production, storage and distribution of green hydrogen, helping inform future government policy on low-carbon heating. This builds on our successful LTS Futures trial, which demonstrated that the existing Local Transmission System can safely transport hydrogen.
We are also ensuring the energy transition benefits all communities, including those in more remote parts of the UK. In Wick and Thurso, we are exploring how locally produced biomethane can help deliver secure, sustainable energy where alternative low-carbon technologies may be less practical.
