A team of 35 volunteers from energy company SGN have spent a day collecting rubbish from Worthing beach, supporting efforts to prevent plastic waste from entering water systems.
Following months of planning, our Major Projects South teams from across our southern network descended on the coastline armed with litter pickers and a mission to conduct a beach cleanup. Major Projects is responsible for upgrading high-pressure transmission offtake and pressure reduction sites, high-pressure pipelines, as well as electrical, instrumentation, and telemetry assets across our entire southern network.
It was part of our Community Action Programme, which gives our people a day of company time each year to help a charity or organisation of their choice, with hundreds of colleagues helping their local communities every year.
Bradley Squires, Electrical and Instrumentation Project Manager at SGN, said: “Every year, approximately 11 million tonnes of plastic waste leaks into our water systems, causing severe harm to marine life and ecosystems. Our efforts in Worthing are a small but meaningful step towards combating this global issue.”
“Not only did we make a significant positive impact on the local environment, but we also enjoyed a fantastic team-building experience. It was great to see colleagues from various locations come together for a common cause.”
Teams from our depots and offices across Scotland and southern England support numerous local organisations by volunteering their time all year round. They’ve helped on a wide range of projects including building a new driveway for a disabled customer, giving a new lease of life to several garden areas and helping create a new home for rescued animals.
