Some spooky seasonal fun is coming to the Scottish Highlands after SGN volunteers conjured up support for the Dunbeg Community Halloween Event.

The much-loved annual event for hundreds of families across Oban kicks off tomorrow and promises plenty of Halloween excitement in a safe and welcoming environment. And, as part of SGN’s Community Action Programme (CAP), five colleagues donated their time today to help prepare the site by rolling up their sleeves and supporting preparations behind the scenes to ensure there are more treats than tricks.

While their day jobs normally involve ensuring the local gas network keeps nearby communities safe and warm, the volunteers leant a hand to magic up a secure space for the community to enjoy. They installed Heras fencing, transported a range of equipment and carried out a range of activities to bring the event to life.

SGN's CAP initiative gives our 4,500 colleagues a day of company time each year to support a community organisation or charity of their choice. The team’s support builds on a successful partnership formed last year when SGN supplied fencing to help organisers safely manage the event.

Our SIU Manager Callum Michie said: “Getting involved again was an easy decision as this is such a worthwhile community event. The organiser Natalie puts an incredible amount of work into making it happen every year. It’s become a real highlight for local families and the children absolutely love it."

What began as a small Halloween gesture for local children has grown into a community celebration that attracts families from across the area and relies on the support of volunteers to bring it to life.

Natalie Pacitti at Natalie’s Halloween Horrors said: “Having the support of SGN is incredible. Running an event of this size takes a huge amount of work and it's usually something that's been organised by a very small team. Knowing we'll have dedicated volunteers helping with the heavy lifting and event setup takes a lot of pressure off and means we can focus on creating the best possible experience for families.

“What started five years ago as a small activity outside my front door has grown into something that brings so many people together. Community means everything to us and it's wonderful to see local organisations like SGN getting behind events that create lasting memories.”
