We're carrying out essential upgrades to our gas network in Buckhold Road, Wandsworth. This work has been planned in close consultation with Wandsworth Borough Council and will ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to nearby homes and businesses.
Working to keep you safe and warm
What we're doing
Our engineering team is replacing old metallic mains with modern plastic pipe which has a lifespan of 80 years.
When we'll be working
Our project will start on Monday 12 May 2025 and will last for approximately 27 weeks.
Where we'll be working
Our work has been planned in five phases to minimise inconvenience and disruption as much as possible. You can find out when and where we'll be working for each phase below.
Phase one – 12 May 2025 for approximately three weeks
Our engineers will start work in Buckhold Road between Neville Gill Close and property number 55. Temporary traffic lights will be installed to keep the traffic flowing safely past our work site.
Phase two – 2 June 2025 for approximately four weeks
We will move along Buckhold Road, from outside property number 55 to outside property number 81. Multi-way traffic lights will be installed.
From 30 June until 20 July, we will reinstate the road to allow traffic to flow through Wandsworth during the Wimbledon Tennis tournament.
Phase three – 21 July 2025 for approximately five weeks
We will return to Buckhold Road and work from Wandsworth High Street to outside the shopping centre opposite Hardwick Square. This section of the road will need to be fully closed to all traffic, with temporary traffic lights to allow the traffic in and out of Hardwick Square. A signed diversion will be in place while access will be maintained for residents and businesses. Busses will need to be diverted.
Phase four – 25 August 2025 for approximately six weeks
The work site will move to the Buckhold Road junction of Neville Gill Close. Multi-way lights will be in place to keep the traffic flowing safely.
Phase five – 6 October 2025 for approximately five weeks
Our engineers will be working in Buckhold Road from outside property number 81 to the junction of Merton Road.
We will be working extended hours and at the weekend to complete this work as quickly and as safely as possible. It is not possible to work for 24 hours continuously due to the noise and bright lighting. Working at night could also compromise the safety of the engineers.
