Galashiels, High Street

We’ll soon be working in Galashiels to connect new properties to the gas network.

Works will start on Monday 05 January and last for two weeks, completing by Friday 16 January

We’ve worked closely with the local authorities to plan this work, and we agreed to carry out the new connections alongside Scottish Water so that we can keep disruption to a minimum by completing two projects under one set of road closures

To carry this work out safely, we’ll need to put traffic management in place, including road closures:

  • High Street, will be closed to traffic from its pedestrian crossing opposite the Trinity Church, through to the exit of the High Street Car Park.
    • Northbound diversion route will be via A7 Braw Lads Brae, Currie Road, Ladhope Vale and Bridge Place.
    • Northwest diversion route will be via Bank Street, Bank Street Brae, Livingstone Place, Scott Street, Gala Park, Kirk Brae and Hall Street.
  • Overhaugh Street, will be closed to traffic from its junction with Bank Close to its junction with the High Street.
    • A diversion route will be in place via Overhaugh Street and Bank Street.
  • Bridge Street and Sime Place will have their one-way orders rescinded and become two-way for the duration of the works.
  • Parking will be prohibited along Windyknowe Road for the duration of the works to allow workers safe access to the gas and water mains.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout, and businesses will remain open as usual.

We appreciate that working on busy roads such as these can be frustrating, and we are doing everything we can, alongside Scottish Water, to get this essential work done as quickly and as safely as possible.

We’d like to thank everyone affected for their patience, understanding and support as we work to connect the new properties to the gas and water network.
