Our planned gas network upgrades
We're preparing to start essential work to upgrade the gas network in the Well Hall Road area of Greenwich. This work will ensure nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.
Our project follows close consultation with the local authority and other key stakeholders. It will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to road users, residents and businesses.
To ensure everyone's safety, temporary traffic lights will need to be installed around our work area. The location of these lights will move as we progress along Well Hall Road:
- At junction of Well Hall Parade from Mon 5 Jan to Thu 1 Feb
- Between junctions of Prince Rupert Road and Rochester Way from Mon 16 Feb to Sun 15 Mar
- At junction of Rochester Way from Mon 9 Mar to Sun 5 Apr
- Between junctions of Rochester Way and Tudor Place from Mon 30 Mar to Sun 19 Apr
- Between junctions of Prince Rupert Road and Kidbrooke Road from Mon 13 Apr to Sun 3 May
- At junction of Kidbrooke Road from Mon 27 Apr to Sun 17 May
In addition, we will need to close the following roads will be closed at their junctions with Well Hall Road so our engineers can safely access and upgrade our pipes:
Well Hall Parade
- Starting Monday 5 January
- Lasting approximately five months
Prince Rupert Road
- Starting Monday 5 January
- Lasting approximately five months
Dunvegan Road
- Starting Monday 27 April
- Lasting approximately four weeks
What do the closures mean for me?
- Signed diversions will be in place for affected motorists.
- Vehicle access for residents within the closure points will change as works progress. Our engineers and local signage will keep road users and residents informed.
- All businesses will remain open around our closure areas. Access to these commercial properties will be maintained throughout.
- Bus routes may be impacted. We advise residents to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to services/routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
- We’ll work with the local council to ensure refuse collections can continue to be made with as little disruption as possible.
- Emergency services will be informed about the road closure and will have contingency plans in place while roads are closed.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, local residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
