Rochester, A228 Frindsbury Road

We're preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the A228 Frindsbury Road area of Rochester.

This work will ensure properties across Rochester continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.

Our work along the A228

  • Our gas network upgrades will start on Monday 7 July
  • This work is expected to last approximately four weeks
  • A road closure will be in place for everyone's safety

We'll be replacing our old pipes along a section of A228 Frindsbury Road from Monday 7 July. Our work is expected to take four weeks to complete.

During this time, and to ensure everyone's safety, A228 Frindsbury Road will be closed between property number 27 and the Grove Road junction. Affected motorists should follow the signed diversion route in place.

Goddington Road and Grove Road will also need to be closed while our engineers are working at these junctions.

What do the closures mean for me?

  • Vehicle access for residents and businesses will be maintained where it is safe to do so. Our engineers and local signage will keep road users and residents informed.
  • Bus routes will be impacted. We advise residents to contact their service provider for the latest updates on changes to services/routes, timetables and bus stop locations.
  • We’ll work with the local council to ensure refuse collections can continue to be made with as little disruption as possible.
  • Emergency services will be informed about the road closure and will have contingency plans in place while roads are closed.

A map outlining our work and closure areas, plus the diversion routes in place, can be found below.

We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
