St Leonards-on-sea, A259 Bexhill Road

We're preparing to carry out essential network upgrades in the A259 Bexhill Road area to ensure nearby homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

Our engineers will be replacing our old metal mains with new plastic pipe from Monday 5 January. This work is expected to last approximately ten weeks.

To ensure everyone's safety around our site, we need to install temporary traffic lights along A259 Bexhill Road, between its junctions with Freshfields and Haven Road.

We'll be manually operating these lights between 7am and 7pm, Mondays to Saturdays, to help manage traffic flow and minimise disruption.

We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of approximately 80 years. This means once our work is done, St Leonards-on-sea residents and businesses will be able to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

Update - Friday 9 January

Following discussions with East Sussex County Council Highways, we have removed the temporary traffic lights around our site, to help ease congestion as we replace approximately 500m of old metal gas mains.

UK Power Networks (UKPN) are responding to a power fault at a junction box located around 50m for our work area. This electrical issue is entirely unrelated to the gas upgrade we are carrying out.

Now that our traffic lights have been removed, UKPN are installing their own three‑way temporary traffic lights to safely access and repair the fault. We understand these will remain in place for several days. For updates on the power outage and UKPN’s traffic management, please refer directly to UKPN’s communication channels.

We appreciate the community’s patience while both organisations complete essential work to maintain safe and reliable services.
