Our contractors, FPF Utilities Limited, are shortly starting work to upgrade the gas network in the St Mary’s Road area of Portsmouth. The work, which starts on 28 July and will be ongoing until 1 September, involves replacing old, metal pipes with new longer lasting plastic ones to ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a reliable gas supply.
To help minimise the disruption for road users, these works are taking place during the school holidays, when local traffic is significantly lighter.
Due to the location of the gas pipes in the roads, and for everyone’s safety, the following traffic management will be in place:
An eastbound directional road closure on St Mary’s Road, between the junctions of Fratton Road and Fourth Street.
This closure will mean:
- No vehicle access eastbound (traffic heading from Fratton Road towards Milton Road)
- Westbound traffic will be unaffected (traffic heading from Milton Road towards Fratton Road)
- Vehicle access to properties and side roads within the closure will be maintained, and access will be via the westbound directional lane only. Our site team will keep residents informed about local access arrangements
- Bus route will be affected eastbound – we’d advise passengers to contact their service provider for diversion routes and changes to service
Bin collection days will remain unchanged unless you hear otherwise from your service provider
We appreciate how disruptive road closures are for residents and road users. Our engineers are committed to doing everything they can to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
If you have any specific questions regarding these works, please email customer@sgn.co.uk.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience this work will cause, and thank local people for their patience and understanding.
