Stride Avenue and surrounding roads, Portsmouth

Our contractors, JB Utilities, are carrying out an extensive programme of work to replace the gas mains in the local area. This work will be ongoing until August 2026.

These essential works will involve replacing an old, metal pipe with new longer longer-lasting plastic one so that we can continue to provide businesses, and wider community, with a safe and efficient gas supply.

Due to the location of the gas main in the road, for everyone’s safety, we’ll have safety barriers around our working area. Traffic will be able to pass the work area on a give-and-take basis, and wherever possible, we’ll avoid using traffic management such as temporary traffic lights and closures.

The following is a guide to our phased programme of work. The dates below are subject to change, as they are dependent on the condition of the old gas pipes and engineering progress.

  • Stride Avenue (30 June - 10 April 2026)
  • Wallisdean Avenue (30 June - 23 July)
  • Lakeside Avenue ( 23 July - 15 August)
  • Wallisdean Avenue (15 August - 12 September)
  • Myrtle Grove (15 September -28 November)
  • Marina Grove (1 December - 6 February 2026)
  • Cedar Grove (13 April 2026 - 12 June 2026)
  • Jenkins Grove (15 June 2026 - 7 August 2026)

Vehicle access to properties will be maintained throughout the work programme.

Important information about parking suspensions

To ensure we can maintain two-way traffic around our work area, on-street parking suspensions will be in place on both sides of the road as we progress. This will require that half of the road’s on-street parking will be suspended. As soon as we have completed one half of the road, we’ll reinstate and re-open parking before moving on to the next half of the road.

We appreciate our work, and necessary traffic management can be disruptive for local road users, and we’d like to reassure the local community that our team will be doing all they can to complete these works as safely and as quickly as possible.

If you have any specific questions regarding these works, please contact our customer service team at customer@sgn.co.uk.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience this work will cause, and thank local people for their patience and understanding.
