We're preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the Worthy Road area.
This work will ensure properties across Winchester continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. It's part of a 30-year programme to replace our old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe.
Our project follows close consultation with the local authority. It will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption.
Our phases of work
B3047 London Road
- Starting Monday 20 October
- Lasting approximately five weeks
Our engineers will be upgrading our network along B0347 London Road.
To ensure everyone's safety and to manage traffic flow, temporary lights will be in operation at the junction of Worthy Road and School Lane, and London Road and Pudding Lane.
These lights will be manually operated at peak times to manage traffic flow.
School Lane
- Starting Monday 10 November
- Lasting approximately four months
Our second phase of work will be carried out in School Lane, near its junction with Worthy Road.
For safety, we need to close School Lane at this junction to motorists. A signed diversion route will be in place.
Access for homes and businesses will be maintained during our closure.
We recognise roadworks can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years, which means when the work is complete, nearby residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.
